Environmental Sustainability, Safety and Health Management

DMCI Power Corporation is committed to operate within the highest standards of Environment and Safety. We, by all means, shall balance our business processes in compliance to all environmental and safety standards in the power generation sector. This commitment to continual improvement, environmental sustainability and safety management are reflected in our environmental programmes, monitoring, operational controls, compliance to government regulations and management system establishment and implementation.

Environmental Monitoring

DMCI Power Corporation has a strong internal and external environmental monitoring programs which we do on a regular basis. The Multi-Partite Monitoring Team (MMT) participates actively in the inspection and monitoring activities scheduled every quarter. MMT is an external monitoring party composed of the representatives from the local barangays, provincial environmental offices, regional EMB, other concerned institutions such as Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD), non-government organizations, schools and the church. As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, our sampling and monitoring for air emissions, noise measurement and water quality are being done by a DENR-accredited third-party laboratory. These sampling activities are done on quarterly, semi-annually and on annual basis depending on the permit conditions. Results and final report are being submitted to the DENR-EMB regional offices. At the beginning of our projects, baseline environmental studies are also being done. Baseline data being collected by a DENR-accredited consulting team and are tabulated and regularly monitored.

Operational controls

Power generation operations hazards and environmental impacts are easily mitigated and controlled by strictly implementing operational controls at the start of the project. Proper noise mitigating measures, oil and water separators, proper storage and handling of wastes and hazardous wastes were just some of the controls we are implementing.

Compliance

DMCI Power Corporation strictly abides by the various laws and acts of the Philippines in protecting the environment and people. To name a few regulations, we adhere with the provisions and the implementing rules and regulations of the Philippine Decree 1586 (Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System), Republic Act 9275 (Philippine Clean Water Act), Republic Act 9003 (Ecological and Solid Waste Management Act of 2000), Republic Act 6969 (Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act of 1990), Republic Act 8749 (Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999), Presidential Decree 856 (Sanitation Code of the Philippines) and Presidential Decree 442, Chapter 2 (Labor Code of the Philippines, Occupational Safety & Health Standards) and other local and national regulations as required.

Environmental and Safety Competency & Training

The training and competency build-up of our team is also an important aspect of our Safety Management. At DMCI Power Corporation, we provide trainings for our people on First Aid and Basic Lay Rescuer as conducted by the Philippine National Red Cross, Fire Fighting Course as conducted by the Bureau of Fire, Basic Occupational Safety and Health and Loss Control Management courses as conducted by the Department of labor and Employment. We also participate actively in environmental and safety organizations such as Pollution Control Association of the Philippines (PCAPI) and World Safety Organization (WSO).

Environmental and Safety Management System

In line with our aim to meet international standards for environmental and safety management, DMCI Power Corporation has on-going programs in establishing policies and procedures in adherence to ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 standards. These standards are over and above the regulatory compliance.
