DMCI Power opens Brooke’s Point diesel plant
March 9, 2016
DMCI Power Corporation (DPC) recently inaugurated its 5.75 megawatt diesel power plant in Brgy. Ipilan, Brooke’s Point in Palawan.
The DPC facility was established to address the supply deficiency and to ease the frequent power disruptions in the Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO) District VI franchise area, particularly in the municipalities of Brooke’s Point, Bataraza and Sofronio Española.
During the inauguration rites, Brooke’s Point Mayor Atty. Jean Feliciano shared that the additional power capacity is beginning to take effect, as potential investors are now visiting the municipality for possible business ventures.
“In the past, these three towns had to endure power instability due to line connection problems and insufficient supply. This was aggravated by the towns’ distance from the main grid of the province, in which case, they were provided power last,” DMCI Power President Nestor D. Dadivas said.
Local government units urged PALECO to install a new plant to immediately resolve the low power voltage being experienced in District VI. PALECO, in turn, forged a partnership with DPC to resolve the appeals of the local communities.
Dadivas also noted how the new power facility will further enhance the supply situation in the three municipalities. “In case there will be line outage, Brooke’s Point, Bataraza and Sofronio Española will continue to have electricity, as they will no longer have to source supply all the way from Puerto Princesa.”
